What exactly is a versatile mom? The online Merriam-Webster dictionary defines versatile as
1. changing or fluctuating readily
2. embracing a variety of subjects, fields, or skills
So, a versatile mom is one who can change with the times and be flexible with varying family and social demands. They are also skilled in many subjects and fields. They bring to their family a unique set of traits, skills, and characteristics – whether that is knowing how to sew a button on a shirt or knowing which beer pairs perfectly with a New York strip steak. Maybe it’s both!
All mothers are versatile to some degree. It’s a matter of recognizing and embracing this title to fully enjoy the benefits of being a versatile mom. With the multiple waves of feminism, I feel that the meaning of being a mother has been lost in the mix. What does it mean to mother a child or children and at the same time maintain your identity as a woman and individual? What does a 21st century Mom look like? All I can say for certain is that there is no one size fits all definition. Moms come with different skills and in all shapes/sizes. This is not the old days of cookie cutter housewives. No, we are embracing a new century and warming up to the idea that anyone can be an awesome Mom.
